As I mentioned in my post on confidence earlier, January and February are hard hard hard months. I don’t know about you, but my moods are typically the lowest in the weeks before spring. So this week, I’ll be sharing some tips on how to feel better from the outside – with fashion and style!
Find your power colour
A power colour isn’t necessarily bold and loud. It can be any colour that just makes you feel good and you enjoy looking at. It’s that colour that adds extra flair to your attitude. I used to wear red whenever I needed an extra oomph. But in the past few weeks, I’ve been moving towards pale pinks.
I noticed I’ve been choosing pale pinks in everything- eyeshadow, nail polishes, even bralettes! Although pale pink is my main power colour, light coral is a close second.
If you have to stick to a strict dress code like me, it’s time to get creative in finding all the ways you can sneak in your power colour.
Not just snow boots
It’s so simple to forget that you can wear more shoes than snow boots! Every winter, I forget how many shoes I actually own.
My problem with Uggs is that once I start wearing them for the season, I can’t stop! I literally don’t want to wear any other shoe. However, I know they make me drag my feet and look more ugh overall.
So if you’re in a shoe rut like me, maybe it’s time to get out of it. Luckily, there are plenty of stylist options for shoes that work in the snow and in the office- like ankle booties and knee high equestrian boots.
More isn’t always more
Loading on accessories and mixing a whole bunch of colours doesn’t always make an outfit more dressy. I have days when I try on over five different combinations, but nothing feels right. When in doubt, it’s always better to wear something figure flattering and simple.
You can choose a feature (or several features) you want to emphasize and use that as a base for choosing a minimalist outfit. If you have long legs, you can look like a CEO in slim trousers, a drapey blouse, and elegant jewelry. If you’re curvy, you can look like a goddess in a form fitting top and flowy culottes.
Treat yo’ self once in a while
Sometimes, you just have to give yourself the temporary reprieve from the blues. If you have an important meeting, get that blowout or manicure. Go ahead and get that lip colour you tested and fell in love with. Trying on a few tops? Spend a little more on the one you like the most. Had a rough day? Get that gelato or chocolate.
Of course, it’s important to be a responsible adult and monitor your spending. But it’s totally okay to indulge in some material things! Fortunately, there are plenty of Valentine’s day sales!
Hugs and kisses,
